In October 2001, we both descended on Paphos in Cyprus for Michelle & Paul's wedding.
Quite a few people were able to make it over there to join in their wedding celebrations including:-
Jackie & Mike
Uncle Georges & Aunty Pat
Nan & Aunty Dot
Aunty Angela & Joanne
Jane & Andy
Michelle & Dave
Everyone was there for a full two week's holiday, but we were only able to make it for a week due to a lack of available holiday time! Looks like we were quite lucky as well since arriving late meant that we missed out on the respective hen and stag parties. The stag party sounded like a particularly raucous with Paul coming out of it particularly worse for wear!
Unfortunately Claire, Paul and Rich's dad were unable to make the trip due the fact that Claire was heavily pregnant and Jack's birth was imminent! It was a real shame they were unable to make it since we all had such a good time and their presence was definitely missed!
The wedding was a lovely civil ceremony held at Paphos Town Hall. As expected, the weather was gorgeous and the sun shone all day (one of the main reasons for going to Cyprus, I suppose!) After the ceremony was complete, we all headed off to a posh local hotel where we celebrated the wedding.
As well as the wedding, the two of us took time out to relax and enjoy each others company. There were a number of days spent relaxing round the pool at the hotel and (unfortunately) a couple of evenings spent around the hotel bar, drinking Kia beer, listening to the dulcet tones of the karaoke - especially Derek with his heavily-accented Lancastrian version of "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" by Elvis ... you really had to hear it to believe it!!
While we were in Cyprus, we also took the opportunity to do a bit of scuba diving (of course!) We did one local dive in the Paphos area (where Kirsty had particular difficulty getting into her kit due to sea-sickness!), but the main dive we were interested in was the day excursion to the Zenobia wreck (see our diving page).
The holiday was extremely enjoyable as we got to spend time together, with the family (which we don't often get to do living away from home!) and had the opportunity to help celebrate Michelle & Paul's special day! As with all single week holidays though, we had to travel home just as we were starting to relax!
